Argentine football superstar Lionel Messi was not among the nominees for the Ballon d’Or for the first time as the list that was revealed Friday included Robert Lewandowski, Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah. France Football magazine announced on their website the 30 players vying for the prestigious award in 2022. Also known as Golden Ball Award, the Ballon d’Or is given to the sport’s best player. Messi, 35, a Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) forward, has won the award a record seven times, including in 2021.

But the former Barcelona player was not been nominated for the award for the first time since 2005. Like Messi, another PSG star, Neymar, from Brazil was also left off the ballot. But Manchester United forward Ronaldo, Barcelona’s Lewandowski, Real Madrid’s Benzema and Liverpool winger Salah were among the other nominees. Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly eyeing a move away from the Premier League club during this summer’s transfer window. This is according to the report from Italian media outlet La Repubblica. It was revealed that the 37-year-old attacker is looking for a way out of Manchester United after one season upon his return to the Theatre of Dreams last summer.

Manchester United have ended their run of three games without a victory in all competitions after their success over Brighton and Hove Albion earlier this week. The two teams met in the Premier League and it was hosts Manchester United who emerged victorious thanks to an impressive display in the second half.

The Red Devils came into the Brighton game on the back of a winless run that saw them exit the FA Cup and also diminished their top-four hopes. Their last win before the run of games without victory in all competitions started was against fellow Premier League top-four chasers West Ham United. England international Marcus Rashford came off the bench to score the only goal of the game against the Hammers in stoppage time. SALAH EQUALS VARDY RECORD AGAINST MAGPIES

Mohamed Salah has been phenomenal for Liverpool as they try to wrestle the Premier League title from rivals ManchesterCity this season. He was once again on target for Liverpool during their 3-1 home win over Newcastle United. Salah was able to equal the goal contribution record set by Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy with his goal against the Magpies. Salah has now scored or assisted a goal in each of the last 15 games in the Premier League, which is a record held by Vardy. Salah can break the record if he scores or assists a goal when Liverpool take on hosts Tottenham Hotspur this weekend in what would be their first Premier League clash of this season.

Egyptian international Salah has been able to stretch his lead at the top of the Premier League scoring charts with his goal against struggling Newcastle United taking his tally to 16 goals and seven  more goals than Vardy who’s the nearest challenger for Salah in the race for the Golden Boot this season. Vardy didn’t have the opportunity to add to his tally of nine goals after the game between his Leicester City side and Tottenham Hotspur was postponed. Frenchman Zidane ended his second managerial spell at Real Madrid at the end of last month due to the lack of support from club president Florentino Perez and his board members.
