Real Madrid’s New Season

Article by Francis Gummer

The global economic recession being experienced by people worldwide has also affected many sporting teams with a knock-on effect on football betting. This is true for some football teams. They are seeking to adjust with slumping ticket sales and increased costs. However, the Real Madrid Football clubs seems to be doing just the opposite. With more and more people buying Real Madrid tickets, the following of the team continues to be strong. Not worrying about the economy, Real Madrid has spent over 250 million Euros in the past few months securing new talent for their team. The football club hopes to re-establish their claim to the football throne after Football Club Barcelona’s stellar season last year.

One new player that Real Madrid signed on is Cristiano Ronaldo. From Portugal, Ronaldo secured a contract with Real Madrid for 94 million Euros, which set a record causing Ronaldo to be dubbed “the most expensive football player”. The company hopes to market not only Ronaldo’s talent but his attractive looks to draw more attention to the club.

Not only has Real Madrid added Ronaldo to their roster but other football superstars. A player from Brazil by the name of Kaka has also joined the team. Although, his contract was less than Ronaldo’s, the amount still came to almost 69 million Euros. Kaka comes to Real Madrid from A.C. Milan. Former team-mate, David Beckham, highly recommended Real Madrid to Kaka, who agreed to sign on.

Two other players also join Real Madrid. Both Spaniards, Xabi Alonso and Raul Olbiol, have transfer from other football clubs in Europe. Albiol was brought aboard to help tighten up the defence for Real Madrid. With a tightened defence, the team hopes that less goals will be scored against them. Alonso will be assigned at midfield anchor. A French player by the name of Karim Benzema was also signed with Real Madrid. Formerly playing football in Lyon, Benzema’s contract cost the club 35 million Euros.

With all the changes on the roster, another notable change should be mentioned. This season the Real Madrid football club will be led by a new manager, Manuel Pellegrini. The pressure is on for Pellegrini to turn thing around for the team. In the past 6 years, there have been nine changes in the management for the Real Madrid Football Team.
